Eclectically Electric (or was that “Electrically Eclectic?)
‘ Notes at 9,000 (10,700): Emerging Artist Series’
Announces Winners of the August 2 Competition Atop the Winter Park Ski Area
BOULDER, CO (August 7, 2006) --Against an ominous and ever-changing sky, the Notes at 9,000: Emerging Artist Series semi-finalists performed before the public, a panel of three judges, a retinue of plein air painters and a spectacular mountain backdrop. The six semi-finalists, Rob Drabkin, (Acoustic Rock Singer), Lizary Rodriguez-Rios (Harpist), Akiko Sasaki (Pianist), Alicia Fall (Singer/Songwriter), Eliana Maria Murphy (Pianist), and Bonnie Draina (Soprano) shared their divergent genres, styles and musical journeys with an equally eclectic audience. (See www.emergingartistseries.com for more about these musicians.)
When describing both musicians and venue, the Judges, Joan McLean Braun, (Executive Director of Concerts and Public Relations for the CU College of Music), Lionel Young, (Jazz Violinist and member of The Lionel Young Band), and Sergio Gallo, (concert pianist and Professor of Music at State University of Georgia-Atlanta), resoundingly agreed that they were truly “inspirational”. The three winners, Lizary Rodriguez-Rios, Harpist, Alicia Fall, Singer/Songwriter, and Bonnie Draina, Soprano, were invited back to perform a full-length recorded concert on August 5 at the Church of Eternal Hills in Tabernash and in concert on August 7 at Nissi’s in Lafayette. Each winner also received a $1,000 cash award and all of the semi-finalists received a day of mentoring by renowned experts in the multiple facets of music presentation and entrepreneurship.
Notes at 9,000 was founded in 2004 by SoYoung Lee, Amy Clark and Kyle Harris. Winter Park and Tabernash, they concurred, were Colorado communities whose pioneering spirit and rich history would appropriately reflect the aspirations of the Series and its emerging musicians. It was with great pride that Notes at 9,000 partnered with the following sponsors for its 2006 competition: Winter Park Ski Area, Elk Horn Art Gallery, Nissi’s, Intrawest, Grand Foundation, Charles Schwab, James Crouch, Beaver Village, Founder’s Pointe, Fraser Crossing, Logger Lane Townhomes, Southwest Art, Rendezvous Foundation, Winter Park and Fraser Valley, and the Boulder County Arts Alliance.

Listener’s Quotes

"Listening to Alicia’s CD, Headed For Amsterdam, is like listening to Melissa Ethridge or Tracy Chapman for the first time. Alicia's music is mesmerizing and magical. The heart felt angst of the folk tunes of the 60's combined with a fresh new sound of the 2000's. She belts out love songs that capture the mystery and passion of living life fully engaged. This singer is the real deal, multi cultural, sensitive and dynamic. Her words and her voice are a piece of heaven on earth. A treat for the whole world.”

"Alicia Fall is a great artist. I first met her at the Notes at 9000 music contest in Winter Park, CO the summer of 2006 where she was one of 6 semi-finalists and I was one of three judges. After hearing her, I quickly went from being a judge to being a fan. Alicia and her original music are beautiful, simple, and deep. At the contest I was struck by how deeply moved I was by her words, her sweet voice, and the passionate peaceful spiritual well that it all seemed to flow from. Whereas most of the other talented contestants aimed to wow you or impress you with one or another aspects of their music. There was none of that with Alicia. She seemed to skip all of that as if to say, 'Here I am, & I have a beautiful gift for you. Accept me as I am.'
"I feel that my life (and all those that are fortunate enough to hear her or have contact with her) is richer for having heard her music."

-Lionel Young

“On the surface Alicia Fall plays songs that fall under the category of pretty acoustic folk, with a percussive edge. But under the surface Alicia's music has the priceless power to heal and bring joy. Go see her whenever you can.”

-Adam DeGraff

“Truly inspirational”

- Notes at 9000 judges Joan McLean Braun, director of Concerts for CU College of Music, and Sergio Gallo, concert pianist and Professor of Music at State University of Georgia

“Singer, songwriter and producer, Alicia Fall’s level of ability to mesmerize her audience and evoke profound emotions, is quite a rare talent.  Her performance is truly imbibing, her soothing, melodious voice is unforgettable.”

- Cathryn Prickett
Associate Director of Admissions
The Art institute of Colorado
1989-2001

“Profoundly spiritual, Alicia’s voice, at once charcoal and honey, penetrates deeply into the well of your soul.”

- Jensine Larsen Founder and CEO, World Pulse Magazine
